Everyone always asks…. “What is a House Concert?

A house concert is a chance to experience live music in a warm and intimate environment. It’s when someone opens up their home and invites you into their living room (or basement converted to a listening room!) to share in a performance by one of their favorite musicians. It’s a chance to meet the performers, talk to them a bit, and get them to sign and personalize their CD (yeah yeah yeah– us old people used to have to BUY music, and it came on shiny plastic coasters).
A house concert is also a great social evening with friends and neighbors, maybe meet some new people, and a great way to hear and experience music.

I like to jokingly say stuff like “We make a huge charcuterie board, get some wine, and then invite 50 strangers into our house to listen to somebody strumming a guitar and singing his/her heart out. And then there’s cake!” But in actuality, most of this is true, except for the strangers part – there are so many people that once were strangers, but now are friends!

I started doing this over 20 years ago. Since then, a lot sure has changed. Through these shows and others — Made some new friends, had some move away, had some bring friends and family after experiencing a houseconcert. And sadly, lost a few friends along the way. I am actually writing this page on the 13th anniversary of Eric Lowen’s passing. And then there was Paul, and I still haven’t come to grips with the enormous empty space that he left in so many lives.

Please note: “This Old HouseConcert” is simply the name we choose to describe our private parties, in our private home. These parties are NOT a business nor are they a business related activity. They are strictly a hobby for us, and are simply gatherings of our friends and guests to enjoy live acoustic music, fellowship, food (a potluck dessert buffet) and fun. Our concert parties are officially free (or else it might be considered a business), although voluntary contributions (suggested donation of $25-$30 per person, generally) are accepted at the party on behalf of the artists. 100% of all contributions go directly to the performers. All of our house concerts are strictly by invitation only.
